Properties and Processing

CuSn12 is a common bronze casting alloy with good corrosion resistance and wear resistance. It has almost the same properties as the material CuSn12-C (CC483K), but contains no lead. The bars can be easily melted down and cast. For good casting behavior, pour at 1,050 to 1,100 °C and add slag binder for copper alloys to the melt beforehand. The molding sand from our range is suitable as a molding material.

The surface of the bars is not polished and therefore appears somewhat matte. The material is clean and free of impurities.

Which Bronze is Right for You?

If very good machinability is important to you, choose the lead-containing bronze CuSn12-C in 250g bars, as lead improves the machinability of copper alloys. Lead-free and in smaller bars, bronze CuSn8 is available. If you add 4 to 7 percent tin, you get a similar, also lead-free alloy with very good casting properties. Plan for risers and feeders in the mold and cast calmly via a gating system instead of by pouring directly. If necessary, sparingly phosphorize with a phosphorus-containing hard solder from our hard solders, but too much phosphorus is detrimental.
