Ms58 is a common brass alloy with 39% zinc and up to 3% lead content. It is very suitable for casting and hot forming. The lead content has no effect on castability and ensures very good machinability of the solidified casting.
If the lead content in the alloy is a concern for you, you can also buy pure copper and pure zinc in convenient quantities in our shops to alloy lead-free brass yourself.
When casting zinc-containing alloys, it should be noted that zinc evaporates from the melt at temperatures above 907 °C. To prevent the zinc content from significantly decreasing, it should be quickly brought to casting temperature (950-1000°C) and poured.
The surface of the ingots is not polished and therefore somewhat duller. Nevertheless, the material is clean and free of impurities.
The molding sand available in our shops is very well suited as a molding material for brass casting.
