Dross Binder for Aluminum Alloys
Form: blue granules
Reaction temperature: approx. 580°C
Recommended addition amount: 0.2% of the melt mass
Effect: Reduces metal content in the dross, deoxidizes, binds hydrogen
Our product range includes a dross binder for all types of aluminum alloys.
Aluminum is particularly prone to forming metal-containing foam dross or scum. Furthermore, molten aluminum preferentially absorbs hydrogen. These factors lead to material loss, miscasts, and potentially hydrogen embrittlement in the casting. The use of dross binders to optimize your melt is therefore of enormous importance. Even small amounts allow you to optimize your melt and prevent undesirable miscasts. When used correctly, the dross binder ensures that the melt is degassed and, in a broader sense, also deoxidized. This leads to a reduction in the metal content in the dross, and oxides are transported to the surface, which makes the melt more fluid and minimizes material loss. We therefore recommend using our product in every melting operation. For copper alloys, we offer special dross binders or additives that achieve similar effects. For low-melting alloys based on tin, lead, and bismuth, no dross binders are required.
Application:
The total addition amount should be approximately 0.2% of the mass to be melted. Add the dross binder after the melting process and before the planned pouring. Gently stir in the granules and wait until a powdery, metal-poor dross forms. Stirring with a coated pouring ladle is recommended.
