WM89 is a lead-free bearing metal/white metal. It serves as a replacement for lead-containing alloys such as WM80.

The alloy is characterized by good static compressive strength, high corrosion resistance, excellent plain bearing and emergency running properties, as well as good solderability on Cu-Zn-Sn alloys, cast steel, and cast iron.

Emergency running properties mean that a material can withstand mechanical loads in a plain bearing for a short time, even without lubricant, without failing.

The liquidus temperature is 360 °C (melting temperature). It is recommended to cast the alloy at approx. 390–440 °C. It is easily castable in permanent molds, silicone rubber, and sand.
