CuSn7Zn4Pb7-C is a common gunmetal alloy. Rg7 is frequently used as a plain bearing material in mechanical engineering. It is characterized by good emergency running properties, high corrosion resistance (even in seawater), and good wear resistance.
The pieces are very easy to melt and cast. For ideal casting behavior, we recommend pouring the alloy at 1100-1150°C and adding slag binder for copper-based alloys to the melt beforehand.
For technical reasons, the alloy contains up to 7% lead. This does not hinder the casting process and ensures better machinability. If you prefer a lead-free cast bronze, you can also purchase CuSn8 ingots in our shops. If you add another 4-7% tin and possibly zinc to this, you will get a similar, but lead-free alloy with very good casting properties.
The surface of the ingots is not polished and therefore somewhat duller. Nevertheless, the material is clean and free of impurities.
The molding sand available in our shops is very well suited as a molding material for bronze castings.
