The rods shown in the pictures are broken and packaged in bottles or zip-lock bags. This method of transport is necessary due to the melting point of 29.76°C. The “1000g in bottle (one piece)” variant is 1 kg of gallium in bottle packaging according to industrial standard.
It is best to melt the gallium in a plastic bottle or a ceramic crucible, in a warm water bath or with a burner.
Gallium has a very low melting point for metals. It is often used for alloying with other metals such as tin, bismuth, or indium. In some cases, gallium alloys replace toxic mercury-containing mixtures.
