Eutectic Bismuth-Tin-Silver Alloy BiSn42Ag1
Composition: 57% Bismuth, 42% Tin, and 1% Silver
Form: Pellets
Melting point: 138°C
Density: 8.7 g/cm³
This offer contains the near-eutectic bismuth and tin alloy in pellets, with an approximate piece weight of 25 g.
They are often used as a substitute for lead-containing Rose’s Metal. It is an ideal lead-free alternative, as it possesses nearly the same properties as Rose’s Metal (25% lead content). The silver content in the alloy increases its strength compared to BiSn42 or Rose’s Metal. The melting point is not significantly changed by the silver content and remains at approximately 138 °C.
The alloy can be used for reliably casting small parts. Due to the low melting point of 138°C, premature solidification of the alloy is prevented, and molds can be filled more effectively. The casting properties are therefore very good. It should be noted that the alloy has low cold formability, which is due to its high brittleness (despite the silver content).
