Bearing Metal White Metal WM80 Sn80Sb12Cu6Pb2
Composition: 80% tin, 12% antimony, 6% copper and 2% lead
Melting range: approx. 183-400 °C
Recommended casting temperature: 450-520 °C
Shape: Triangular bar sections
Density: 7.4 g/cm³
WM80 is a bearing metal/white metal. It has more optimal mechanical properties than lead-based bearing metals and the lead-free WM89.
The alloy is characterized by good static compressive strength, high corrosion resistance, excellent plain bearing and emergency running properties, as well as good solderability on Cu-Zn-Sn alloys, cast steel, and cast iron.
Emergency running properties mean that a material can withstand mechanical loads in a plain bearing for a short time, even without lubricant, without failing.
The liquidus temperature is approx. 400 °C (melting temperature). It is recommended to cast the alloy at approx. 450-520 °C. It has good casting properties in chill molds, silicone rubber and sand. When casting in silicone rubber molds, rather generous cross-sections and a casting temperature not much higher than 450 °C should be used.
A lead-free alternative to WM80 with similar properties is WM89.
