<p>CuSn12 is a common bronze casting alloy. It is characterized by its good corrosion resistance and wear resistance. It essentially has the same properties as the material CuSn12-C (CC483K), but this alloy is lead-free. Lead improves machinability in copper alloys. If excellent machinability is important to you, we recommend opting for our CuSn12-C in 250 g bars instead.<br />
The bars are very easy to melt and cast. For ideal casting behavior, we recommend pouring the alloy at 1050–1100°C and adding slag binder for copper-based alloys to the melt beforehand.<br />
As an alternative to the 1 kg CuSn12 bars, we also offer CuSn8 as lead-free bronze in smaller, 250 g bars. If you add an additional 4–7% tin to this, you will obtain a similar, also lead-free alloy with very good casting properties.<br />
The surface of the bars is not polished and therefore appears somewhat duller. Nevertheless, the material is clean and free from impurities.       </p>
<p>The molding sand available in our shops is very well suited as a molding material for bronze castings.</p>

<p>Ecobrass is a term for brass alloys that contain less than 0.1% lead. Thus, they comply with current standards for use in contact with drinking water. </p>
<p>The alloy exhibits similar mechanical properties to other lead-containing brass grades. It is suitable for both casting and forming processes. Its notable properties include good machinability, corrosion resistance, resistance to stress corrosion cracking, polishability, and good hard and soft solderability.  </p>
<p>These properties result from the significantly lower zinc content compared to Ms58 and the additions of silicon and phosphorus. This combination largely compensates for the absence of lead for machinability and the softer α-structure, compared to the harder α-β-structure of Ms58. </p>
<p>The silicon in the alloy leads to increased hardness and good machinability. The low phosphorus content deoxidizes the melt and makes it more fluid. Silicon and phosphorus also counteract zinc evaporation during melting. Nevertheless, the use of slag binders for copper alloys during the melting process is recommended.   </p>
<p>Therefore, if it is important to produce lead-free castings or if you want to cold or hot form the casting later, this alloy is preferable to Ms58.</p>
